Can fund databases be relied upon?

Hedge fund databases are in their infancy and this creates problems for users who are demanding up-to-date information.

The proliferation of hedge fund databases and accompanying indices brings with them issues about the reliability and depth of their statistics. In a survey conducted by Hedge Funds Review of some of the most popular databases used in the industry, responses show providers' attempts to keep services as up-to-date as possible almost exclusively rely on self-reported data, bringing into focus the question of how truly independent or representative they are.
