Gartmore, Martin Phipps - August 2003

Gartmore's Martin Phipps provided Hedge Funds Review with an update in August 2003 on the group's single fund roll-out plans.

Martin Phipps has found himself in a very enviable position. As head of hedge funds at Gartmore, demand for his firm’s hedge funds is well and truly outstripping supply with five of nine single strategy hedge funds closed.

“We have had four single strategy hedge funds that have open and then closed, either at launch or just a few months after launch,” Phipps explains.

The first one, closed four months after its 1999 opening – the AlphaGen Capella European long/short fund managed by Roger Guy
