Beware: this kitty bites!

US and European hedge managers who held out hands with a friendly "Here, kitty kitty!" to Asia's tiger markets may have come back with fewer fingers, dollars and investors than they started with, explains David Walker. Beware, say the experts involved in the region- Asia's tiger can bite the unprepared!

If you are allocating to the manager of an Asian hedge fund, beware and check the pedigree and investment approach of the house, caution seasoned managers active in the region.

For Richard Cardiff, chief executive officer of London's Coupland Cardiff, which runs the CC Asia Absolute Return Fund, notes managers who have applied either trading models or investment processes that worked well in Europe and the US to Asia will quickly find out Asia's markets can dance to a quite different tune.
