Turning points: Frédéric Lasserre, Belaco Capital

Recent years have seen an outflow of commodity derivatives talent from banks towards hedge funds and independent traders. This is the path trodden by Frédéric Lasserre, former head of Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking’s commodity research and strategy team and now Paris-based chief executive of asset manager Belaco Capital. Increased regulation and calls for banks to cut their risk-weighted assets are leaving many titans of the commodity derivatives world with a diminished role. But this outflow of talent is also propelling the rise of myriad hedge funds, asset managers and advisory firms. Among them is Belaco Capital, a multi-commodity hedge fund set up by a group of former executives from Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking (SG CIB) in May last year.
