S&P Dow Jones Indices takes on high-dividend and low-volatility combination in industry first

S&P Dow Jones Indices has combined two of the year's biggest themes so far in its latest index, the S&P 500 Low Volatility High Dividend Index

Dividend indexes have taken on yet another dimension of sophistication with the latest launch from S&P Dow Jones Indices. The new S&P 500 Low Volatility High Dividend Index, launched on October 15, applies a low-volatility screen to a basket of high-yielding dividend securities from the S&P 500.

It is the first index tied to a US benchmark to combine the themes of high dividend and low volatility, both of which have been huge themes this year for index and exchange-traded fund (ETF) creation
