Texas could face power shortages due to new EPA rule: ERCOT

Pollution rule could impact long-term ERCOT reliability and create additional costs as power plants devote resources to understanding the new system, ERCOT warns

If the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Cross-State Air Pollution Rule is implemented as written, Texas could face a shortage of generation within a few years, HB 'Trip' Doggett, chief executive officer of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), has warned.

As the independent system operator (ISO) for the electric grid in Texas, ERCOT does not own generation or transmission assets but released a statement criticising the new rule on Tuesday because it thinks electric grid
