Low, cost, simplicity and transparency are the words most associated with exchange-traded funds in the second annual Structured Products survey of these relatively new investments. A mere 20 years old, but younger when viewed in their regular use by investors, ETFs are all of these things.

But in the current market, the use of these terms is more than a little surprising. Read any story about ETFs in the newspaper and newswire media and you will be alerted to how complicated ETFs have become
