FTSE indexes track firms' carbon exposure risk

Two new carbon indexes will enable investors to make investment decisions based on how carbon reduction schemes affect company earnings

FTSE Group has launched two UK indexes that reflect the carbon risks associated with some companies as the UK government works towards emissions targets and the European Union rolls out its Carbon Emissions Trading Scheme.

The FTSE CDP Carbon Strategy All-Share Index and the FTSE CDP Carbon Strategy 350 Index are based on FTSE's existing all-share and 350 indexes. Instead of screening out companies as most indexes based on environmental factors do, the index tilts weightings towards or against
