US regulatory reform legislation nears 2,000 pages as conference begins

Democrats and Republicans spar in the first meeting of the two-week process.

The conference to reconcile the financial regulatory reform bills passed by both the US Senate and House of Representatives began yesterday with sharp exchanges over the inclusion of an additional 300 pages not featured in the previous Senate text.

The 1,974-page conference base text runs 358 pages longer than the 1,616-page version of the Restoring American Financial Stability Act of 2010, as passed by the Senate on May 20.
