EC accelerates consultation on beefed-up short-selling proposals

Under pressure from member states, the EC expects to adopt new short-selling rules by September.

The European Commission (EC) is set to open a public consultation on detailed short-selling proposals early next week, but the text will be more wide-ranging than originally intended, and is being published earlier than planned as a result of recent market volatility and lobbying from member states.
