US bank regulators align with Basel Committee on liquidity

US banking regulators have issued new liquidity risk policy co-ordinated with Basel Committee guidance.

US federal banking agencies have produced a joint policy statement to clarify their stance on liquidity risk, and bringing it more closely into line with guidance from the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision.

The regulators said the statement outlines their expectations for sound liquidity risk management, summarising existing guidance issued by US regulators since the liquidity crisis of 2008–09.

In September 2008 the Basel Committee came out with its Principles for sound liquidity risk
