New member registrations reopened on Climex

Netherlands-based exchange Climex, which offers environmental and energy contracts, has reopened its membership registration for the carbon spot exchange after reviewing and amending its criteria.

New members have been restricted for the past four months because of an increase of registration applications from companies new to the carbon market and unknown to Climex, the exchange said in a statement.

Climex's restriction coincided with ongoing concerns about VAT carousel fraud in the carbon market which led to environmental exchange Bluenext suspending trading in June and the UK's tax authority HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) arresting seven people on the suspicion of a £38 million VAT fraud
