WRMA to campaign on data and against normalisation

Lynda Clemmons, president of the US Weather Risk Management Association (WRMA), is to sit on an American Meteorological Society (AMS) panel to address issues in the weather industry involving weather data and public-private partnerships.

The WRMA also intends to launch a campaign to educate utilities about the advantagesof weather derivatives over weather normalisation agreements. Weather risk firmsview normalisation agreements – whereby a utility makes an agreement withits regulator that it can raise or reduce rates to mitigate the impact of weather – asan increasing threat to the development of the weather risk market.
