After a year of important developments in German contract law and Solvency II, the GDV's managing director Axel Wehling gives an update on the progress made by his organisation. Nicholas Dunbar reports

Life & Pensions - What has been the experience of the GDV membership in 2007? Are things better than last year?

Axel Wehling - Of course. For the insurance industry, 2007 will again be a good financial year. The profitability of German insurers has risen again, even in a difficult market environment. Apart from indemnity and accident insurers, the German life insurers - for whom 2006 was already quite a successful year - can be pleased. After all, one in two contracts closed concern a pension
