Testing the waters

Some analysts are recommending that pension firms should start allocating cash to structured products, including capital-guaranteed funds. It’s early days, but some pension funds are already taking the plunge. Hann Ho reports

Capital-guaranteed funds, equitylinked notes, funds-of-funds – products such as these have been snapped up by Europe’s yield-hungry retail investors for the past few years. But a new report is now recommending that pension funds should take a closer look at structured products as a means of resolving their asset/liability problems. It’s early days, but some pension funds have started to dabble in structured products, while a few dealers have begun to position themselves to take advantage of this
