Freezing out the competition

Nord Pool’s hold over Nordic electricity trading has would-be rivals and some industry players steaming. They accuse the exchange of throttling competition and harbouring over-zealous expansion plans

While few deny that Nord Pool, the Nordic power exchange, is central to the region’s success in electricity trading, opinion is increasingly becoming divided over the competitive practices of the world’s first international power exchange.

Indeed, part of the reason why controversy is swirling around Nord Pool is that it does have such a central role in the functioning of the electricity trading markets in the Nordic region. There have long been rumours of market manipulation on Nord Pool
