Malaysian central bank governor cautions on Basel II

Zeti Akhtar Aziz, the governor of the Central Bank of Malaysia, has said that other financial leaders in emerging economies should be cautious about how they implement Basel II.

Aziz, who was speaking at the public-private dialogue session of the SEACEN Conference of Directors of Supervision of Asia Pacific Economies in Kuala Lumpur, in early August, said: "The new capital accord is yet another significant development that would challenge the robustness of the cross-border banking framework and principles. The real test would be in translating the principles into detailed policies and action plans that are both sound and practicable."
