Canada's Le Pan heads Basel advisory group

Nicholas Le Pan, superintendent of financial institutions in Canada, will lead a group that will help banking supervisors share information and approaches related to the coming into effect of the Basel II bank capital adequacy accord.

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, which - as architect of Basel II - is setting up the group, said the move reflected the committee's view that strong support for the efforts of supervisors would be essential for a successful accord. The group will be known as the Accord Implementation Group.
