EU Parliamentary hearings raise a variety of issues

The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs of the European Parliament held a public hearing on Tuesday, Febaruary 19, titled "Minimum Capital Requirements for Banks and Investment Firms (Basel II)".

Speakers included representatives of Eurochambres, the Brussels-based Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry; the Banque de France’s Commission Bancaire; the European Association of Co-operative Banks; the European Savings Banks Group; and Barclays.

Comments ranged from an analysis of the impact of the adoption of Basel II and CAD3 on the countries of central and eastern Europe to the changes that domestic banks will still like to see to proposed regulations around lending
