Ferc addresses reliability

US energy companies are set to receive greater scrutiny of their compliance with power grid reliability standards following the August 14 US blackout. US energy regulator the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) wants to replace the industry’s traditional voluntary approach to grid reliability with a mandatory one. Commissioner Suedeen Kelly says: “We need to do more than just reporting.”

The agency underlined its intent in December by starting work on an order that would require
