CFTC loses chief economist

James Overdahl, chief economist at the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, has resigned to take a post at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).Overdahl will join the SEC this week as chief economist, replacing Chester Spatt, who announced last week he would be returning to academia. Spatt is professor of finance at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

No replacement has been named at the CFTC, which also lost its chairman last month. A permanent replacement for Reuben Jeffery
