New senior management for Barclays Global Investors

Barclays Global Investors has recruited several new senior managers as the firm grows and its previous head of equity investments resigns.

Malcolm Leigh joined BGI's London office in October as managing director of the global market strategies group. He was previously chief executive at the macro overlay managing company Tactical Global Management, and will be working to grow BGI's hedge fund business.

Nico Marais has moved from BGI's San Francisco office to London, where he started in September as head of investment strategy for the UK and European active equity group; he was formerly a US active equity investment strategist.

Meanwhile, Mark Stockley joined BGI in October as the head of cash sales, to lead a new five-strong distribution team; he was previously head of international liquidity funds at JP Morgan. Also in London, Mike Walsh joined this month as chief financial officer for Europe, coming to BGI from Deutsche Asset Management, where he was CFO for the UK investment management and institutional divisions.

Matthew Annable, chief investment officer for active equities in Europe, will step down next year in order to seek a lifestyle change, the company said; no replacement has been named.
