More QIS 5 details from Basel

Madrid – The Basel Committee for Banking Supervision published a more detailed timetable for quantitative impact study five (QIS 5) at the end of March, said Jaime Caruana, head of the committee, in a speech to an Institute of International Finance conference in Madrid.

There has been some confusion recently over the timetable for QIS 5, given that many countries – including the US – are in the midst of a national QIS 4. Caruana confirmed that countries that have completed a QIS 4 will have the flexibility to simply update the data for QIS 5 or provide a whole new report. To enable banks to prepare for the study, a draft workbook will be released in July, he added. The actual study will take place between October and December this year – three months earlier
