State Pensions - £12bn increase in unfunded public sector pension liabilities
Unfunded civil service and teachers' pension schemes added a combined total of nearly £12 billion in liabilities to the British state, according to documents published on the House of Commons website.
The teaching scheme has combined membership of about 1.5 million and is responsible for just under £7 billion of the increase in liabilities, with a similar number of civil servants accruing the lower figure of £4.8 billion due to the less generous salaries paid to the profession. Civil servants
