Going up ... the UK bounces back
After five years of decline, the UK market is beginning to show signs of life. Some participants say that conditions are improving for structurers and distributors alike, and that opportunities exist for those who are willing to offer something out of the ordinary
The UK's mainstream press has never liked structured products. And who can blame them? The precipice bond scandal, poorly performing products, weak marketing campaigns and insipid offerings - usually wrapped as tried-and-tested guaranteed equity bonds (GEBs) - meant the market was never going to win many fans. The tables may be turning, however. Following five years of decline, the UK retail market is finally in the ascendance, with a raft of innovative new products transforming the land of GEBs
