Midwest power market to start on April 1

The US energy market regulator yesterday gave the Midwest Independent System Operator (Miso) the go-ahead to launch its wholesale energy market on April 1, after several delays.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) said Miso has undertaken the necessary steps and testing to ensure power grid reliability and continuity of operations and systems.

Ferc said its approval paves the way for increased system reliability and competition in the Miso region, which extends from eastern Montana through the upper Midwest and south to parts of Kentucky and Missouri. The
