UBS goes SQL: Union Bank of Switzerland has upgraded its version of Sungard Capital Markets' Devon Derivatives System, according to bank officials.

UBS is has now installed a newer version of Devon that relies on an SQL-based Sybase database to store its trades. The previous version of Devon used a proprietary data format (Derivatives Engineering & Technology, September 2).

Societe Generale: The London and Frankfurt offices of Societe Generale are installing a new interface that automatically links their front office position-keeping system with the EBS foreign exchange electronic broking system.

The EBS link was developed by Tantus, the London-based front office technology provider. SocGen uses the Tantus Dealing System to support its forex and money markets traders.

Standard Bank: London-based Standard Bank has gone live with Rims, a front-to-back office capital markets application developed by UK-based Synopsys.

The Rims system was configured and installed by TCA Consulting, the London-based financial technology consultancy house.

Regulations survey: A survey conducted by Moores Rowland, the London-based accountancy house, says City institutions want to see more deregulation of their activities.

Over half the financial institutions surveyed wanted to see certain regulations abolished, while nearly two-thirds wanted to see existing regulations amended.

Object Design: Object Design has released a new add-on module for its Objectstore object-oriented database system.

The new module, dubbed Time Series Object Manager, allows database developers to store, search and retrieve time series-based objects such as yield curves and historical market data, according to a vendor spokesperson.

Clarification: Officials at Frankfurt-based Commerzbank have stressed that the bank has not ruled out extending its planned risk management data repository to cover other Commerzbank subsidiary companies, such as Commerz Financial Products.

Last month, the bank announced its intention to build a global risk database using Infinity Financial Technology's class libraries and risk data model. (RMO, August 26).
