US Regulators Will Make Basle II Decision After Final Details Known

WASHINGTON -- US banking regulators will decide whether the Basle II capital adequacy rules are to apply to all US banks after global supervisors publish the final version of Basle II later this year, say officials at the US agencies.

Basle II is the new capital adequacy accord for large international banks proposed in January by the Basle Committee of banking supervisors from the Group of 10 leading economies. In 2004 Basle II will replace Basle I, the 1988 accord that applies to all US banks
