Deutsche Telekom credit default widens on downgrade

The cost of protection for Deutsche Telekom has widened 20 basis points following today’s downgrade. Moody’s downgraded the long-term debt ratings of Deutsche Telekom to Baa3 from Baa1, and its short-term debt ratings to Prime-3 from Prime-2 with a stable outlook.

On Wednesday, an article in the Financial Times in London gave a negative report on the progress of the German telecoms cable asset disposal program, sending the cost of credit protection wider by 10bp on the day to 190bp-mid. Credit default swaps for fellow telecom France Telecom also rose 10bp to 270bp.
