ICE names Spencer as CFO

Atlanta-based commodities exchange, the IntercontinentalExchange (ICE), has made Richard Spencer its chief financial officer, a newly created role. ICE has also created an office of the chairman to manage the exchange’s rapid growth. The office of the chairman will consist of Jeff Sprecher, ICE chief executive, chief operating officer Chuck Vice as well as Spencer.

Prior to joining ICE, Spencer held a variety of senior positions in the private funds group of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette - now CSFB - and the private equity group of Merrill Lynch. He also worked in a variety of underwriting and capital markets activities at Goldman Sachs, First Chicago and Bear Stearns. Since 1998, Spencer has also served as president of Crossroads Investment Advisors, a private equity fund of funds manager.

“The energy and commodity trading industry has experienced dramatic changes recently,” said Sprecher.

ICE has experienced strong trading activity in natural gas, oil, power, precious metals, weather derivatives and emissions allowances in the past few months. The exchange now has 8,500 registered users from 45 firms that can trade in more than 600 types of listed commodity and over-the-counter contracts.
