ING hires Asian equity derivatives traders

ING Financial Markets has hired two equity derivatives traders, Jean-Guy Renard and Martin Wevers, for its Hong Kong office.

Renard joins today as vice-president to cover proprietary and exotic options trading. He joins from Credit Lyonnais, where he was most recently a proprietary convertible bonds trader in London. Before that, he was based in Hong Kong trading equity derivatives. He has also worked on the equity derivatives quant team for SG in Paris.

Wevers becomes a manager, trading options for Japan. He has worked for ING for three years, previously with the equity derivatives team in the Netherlands. He moved to Hong Kong last month. Before joining ING, Wevers worked for IBM within its internet solutions team.

The two appointees report to Trinh Du, head of equity derivatives products in Asia. Du said the appointments were in response to increasing proprietary trading opportunities and client demand for structured products and exotic options.

The Dutch bank recently sold its Asian equity sales, trading, research and equity capital markets businesses to Australia’s Macquarie Bank with the aim of focusing on high value-added products, including structured finance, mergers and acquisitions, debt capital markets and syndicated loans.
