Treasury Committee announces banking reform inquiry

UK Treasury Committee continues to look at banking reform in the Northern Rock aftermath

LONDON – The UK Treasury Committee has announced a new inquiry into banking reform, in continuation of its work on Northern Rock and banking reform, and its July 1 publication of the paper Financial stability and depositor protection: further consultation.

The Committee also announced the schedule for oral evidence and a call for written evidence. The written evidence deadline of midday July 30, 2008 enables oral evidence received in the meantime to be taken into account, in addition to a further consultation document expected to be published later in July on the Special Resolution Regime, designed to intervene in banks that require assistance.
