The Stock Exchange of Thailand in April started its fourth decade in business and launched its futures market, the Thailand Futures Exchange. Rahul Jhaveri reports

April was a landmark month for the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET). Coinciding with SET's 31st anniversary on April 28, Thailand's bourse hosted the inauguration of the Thailand Futures Exchange (Tfex), which went live with its first derivative product, a futures contract referencing the SET50 Index.

Trading volume on the first day alone came to 161 contracts, worth 86.47 million baht ($2.28 million), more than was expected by senior officials. The four SET50 Index futures contracts that
