Isda AGM: 'Trepidation' over central clearing, admits CME

Uncertainty over the final shape of regulatory reform is reportedly making buy-side firms wary of committing to central clearing.

Clearing houses admitted there were compelling reasons for buy-side firms to wait before clearing trades, during a panel discussion at the International Swaps and Derivatives Association's annual general meeting in San Francisco on April 23.

Mark Cox, director of clearing solutions at Chicago-based CME Group, said there was “trepidation” in the market over central clearing, noting it was a “disruptive innovation” and the market was right to be cautious over it.
