World Energy Exchange completes wholesale electricity auction

US-based brokerage World Energy Solutions has completed its second auction via its online auction platform World Energy Exchange. Austin Energy, a community-owned electric utility and an Austin, Texas, city department, purchased 664.8 million kilowatt hours of on-call electricity supply using the platform. The utility plans to retire its 358 megawatt Holly gas-fired power plant this year and used World Energy Exchange to find replacement supply for 2008-2010.
