Merrill Lynch launches new carbon certificate in Europe

Merrill Lynch has launched a five-year certificate linked to companies with reduced carbon footprints set to benefit from the push for cleaner energy. The 100% capital protected certificate offers 100% participation and will track the bank’s proprietary index, the Merrill Lynch Carbon Leaders Index, which was launched last October.

The certificate will target investors looking for an investment that is both green and profitable. “Investors will benefit from increasing money flows going into carbon-efficient companies while contributing to a cleaner environment at the same time,” says Zoe Knight, senior director of Socially Responsible Investing at Merrill Lynch research.

The Carbon Leaders index is calculated by selecting the 60 most carbon efficient companies from the DJ Eurostoxx 600 across 18 different sectors, using
