Endex lists Belgian power forwards

Dutch electricity exchange Endex started listing Belgian power forwards today. Belgian utility Electrabel and German utility Essent did the first trade today, a November baseload contract.

The exchange is aiming to tap into the demand created by the Belgian virtual power plant (VPP) auctions run by Endex. With a VPP, the incumbent generator sells part of its production capacity to market entrants. This sale of capacity remains virtual, as no actual assets change hands – the incumbent generator remains the owner of all its power plants.
