Hong Kong Futures Exchange suspends international equity derivatives trading

The Hong Kong Futures Exchange is to suspend trading of its international stock futures and options, it was announced today.

Owner of the exchange, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, said in a statement that no new futures contract months, options contract months or options series will be introduced for trading, while existing contracts with no open interest will be suspended with immediate effect. The derivatives contracts affected include those linked to companies such as IBM, Microsoft and Toyota Motor Corporation.

“The trading suspensions are the result of frequent reviews of our product portfolio to ensure that our products are meeting the needs and demands of the market, in a cost-efficient manner,” said the exchange in the statement.
