FTSE to take over calculation of Italian MIB indexes

Index provider FTSE will take over the calculation of existing equity indexes for the Italian market on behalf of Borsa Italiana from March 30 2009. The current S&P/MIB index, the calculation of which will be unchanged in the transition, will be rebranded the FTSE MIB.

FTSE will take over a total of seven indexes, all of which will be able to underlie financial instruments such as structured products. The indexes comprise the FTSE MIB - large cap, the FTSE Italia mid cap, small cap, all-share, MIB Storico, micro cap and star indexes. FTSE also plans to launch Italia sectoral indexes.
