Once associated solely with the US market, index provider MSCI is now proving its mettle as a global player, earning more revenue from Europe than the US, and proving an appealing choice for those doing business in Asia. Matt Cameron talks to chief operating officer David Brierwood and managing director Theodore Niggli about the company's strategy

Q: MSCI is sometimes perceived as being focused on the US, with most of your core clients coming from that country. Would you say that is a fair perception?

The last time that was true would have been in the early 1970s, but it is no longer the case. The strongest part of our franchise is built on investors based outside the US. For example, the vast majority of investors based in Australia will use us for their investments outside of their home country. This is also true for investors in Japan
