Axa Indonesia turned to BNP Paribas after making requests to various financial institutions to provide a structure and support for a variable annuity deal that offered guarantees

Axa Indonesia commenced discussions with banks and asset managers at the beginning of 2013 about a deal for its policyholders that would incorporate three elements: a guaranteed fund; a complete assurance on operational risk; and the ability to provide a deal in which multiple payments could be made.

After watching the local Indonesian equity market climb between 2009 and 2013, Axa had set its sights on meeting the needs of policyholders who, by February 2013, were starting to get defensive.
