Closing the gap between structured products and funds

Precise definitions of structured products and structured funds can sometimes be hard to pin down, but a trend is emerging in the UK for investments that combine elements of both, in an attempt to boost their appeal to traditionally fund-orientated investors. By Vita Millers

Structured products are no longer enough, if the recent offerings from the UK mainstay structured product distributors are anything to go by. While the market is still awash with ever-popular FTSE 100-based autocalls, as well as slightly more ambitious multi-index or stock basket underlyings, some providers are aiming to challenge funds with smart strategies or open-ended offerings that do not quite fall into any established category.
