UK sees sharp rise in structured product complaints

Complaints about structured products were up by more than 1,500 in 2012 compared to the previous two years

Figures published by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) show that 4,486 complaints were made about structured products last year, compared to 2,911 in 2011 and 2,950 in 2010.

Although the FCA data does not reveal at what stage in the products' terms the complaints were made, the increase could be the result of a rise in the number of products sold. The number of retail structured products issued in the UK rose from 103 in 2005 to a peak of 405 in 2011, according to UK-based consultancy
