FTSE and NSE announce first independent Kenyan sovereign debt index

FTSE Group and the Nairobi Securities Exchange have launched the first independently calculated Kenyan sovereign debt index, underscoring increasing investor interest in Africa

The world's first independent benchmark index for Kenyan government bonds has been launched by FTSE Group and the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE). FTSE and the NSE began calculating the FTSE NSE Kenyan Shilling Government Bond Index on October 3.

The launch comes amid increasing demand from investors to access emerging market bonds and currencies. Although there has been a flurry of local government bond index creation for Asia and other emerging economies, this type of development in Africa
