MSCI and Barclays partner to launch ESG fixed-income indexes

Link-up will allow institutional fixed-income investors to apply ESG investment strategies to their bond portfolios

Index provider MSCI and Barclays have partnered to bring MSCI's in-house environmental, social and governance (ESG) research and Barclays fixed-income indexes together in a new venture.

"Sustainability investing is developing quickly and there is growing recognition of the relevance of ESG factors to investments," says Baer Pettit, managing director and head of the MSCI Index Business. The social responsible investing (SRI) market was worth $11 trillion last year, up from $6.8 trillion in 2008
