The European Securities and Markets Authority (Esma) has issued a discussion paper setting out policy guidelines for Ucits exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and structured Ucits products.

The Undertakings for Collective Investments in Transferable Securities format has been used as a vehicle to implement a variety of strategies, including those used by hedge funds.
