HSBC lists South Africa ETF in London

HSBC has added another ETF to its emerging markets range and predicts that this year will see less focus on classifying countries and more on how they are connected.

HSBC has listed a South Africa exchange-traded fund (ETF) on the London Stock Exchange as part of its emerging markets offering.

The ETF tracks the MSCI South Africa index and offers exposure to an economy that Farley Thomas, head of ETFs at HSBC in London, describes as "vibrant and dynamic". Thomas says the time has come for the second tier of emerging markets economies – such as Turkey, South Africa, Mexico and Columbia – to enter the limelight.
