The return of risk

In the tussle between fear and greed, greed is easing back into the driving seat. So said Alan Kerr, managing director of Harbourmaster Capital and chairman of the Structured Products Ireland conference, held on September 15 in Dublin. Transparency, simplicity, value for money and diversification were the prevailing themes. By Richard Jory

As well as outlining the myriad reasons why the financial crisis reduced structured products activity to almost nothing, the Structured Products Dublin conference saw strong signs that the business has re-emerged in Ireland. In some cases, that has meant a greater diversity of product as well as underlying, and even a better understanding of the concepts that underpin products, such as volatility and credit quality.
