Sales of structured products to retail investors in the UK amounted to £9.68 billion in 2008, marking a 25% increase on the £7.17 billion figure from 2007, according to London-based Blue Sky Asset Management. The increase in sales has been fuelled by a rising number of active providers in the UK, in addition to higher levels of product issuance and client demand. The number of retail structured products issued in 2008 reached 985, some 20% higher than in 2007.
