An exclusive club

Investec Private Bank may be small compared to its competitors, but that’s the way the bank’s chief investment officer likes it. Paul Lyon reports

Private banking has become somewhat commoditised and impersonal. That’s the view of Investec Private Bank anyway. As a result, the bank has decided to keep its operation focused on family office groups and the top end of the high-net-worth individual market. And Kim Hillier, the bank’s London-based co-head and chief investment officer, has no plans “to take over the wealth management world.”

At present, the bank has an investment team of 11 in London, a couple in the Channel Islands, and Swiss
